If you are looking for a real entertainment, this book is IT! I laughed out loud at the parody and some exaggerated situations and sex scenes (no, no, it never shied away from that). Honestly, I think this book is a great movie material and I think it would be more enjoyable to see it in motion picture. Sarah Jessica Parker of Sex in the City kept flashing in my mind as I read about the main character, Ivy. She was a working mother of two with a high powered corporate job. Sadly, the company (who engaged in dog-eat-dog race) downsized and Ivy was let go. At the same time, her marriage crumbled. (I think he cheated and he was lazy). Suddenly, Ivy found herself looking for a job to support herself and her private-school daughters. To make it short, she had to say goodbye to her high standard of living. She had to move to a lower- class part of town and find a source of income. In the process she met few men of love (and lust)-interest, which made her once dull life with her ex more “colorful.” There was a beach scene between Ivy and one of her lover. They got to the point where they took off their clothes: “We started kissing again. Soon, we were embracing and I forgot about the sand… He kissed me gently on the lips, then eased his face down to lick my neck, suck my breast… We were startled by a jeep driving down the beach…. A man with a flashlight got out and started toward us… and flashed his light right at my boobs.”
I tell you, this story is hilarious!
Through her friend, Faith, who married a super rich mogul, Ivy found herself a new career by helping Manhattan parents in admitting their children into private schools. I have to admit, I am not familiar with the admission process into a private Manhattan schools for kindergarten children and I can’t even begin to think what parents do to get their children accepted. But this book presented it so well in a satirical manner that made me laughed from the beginning to the end.
